The study of Fine Arts is an exciting and integral part of student life at Carroll Christian Schools. Our extensive program includes studies in Music, Drama, and Visual Arts with opportunities for students in all grades to explore various aspects of the fine arts. We seek to instill in our students an appreciation of the arts and the desire to use all of their gifts for the glory of God. Carroll Christian celebrates the unique God-given talents of our students by offering training and support to the next generation of artists to live Christ-centered lives while excelling in their chosen discipline.

Music

The goal of the music program at CCS is to cultivate the student’s musical talents for the glory of God, develop music literacy, and encourage a positive attitude and appreciation of music. We believe that music is an integral part of a child’s education due to its emphasis on creativity, initiative, responsibility, and cooperation. Furthermore, as Christians, we have a mandate to praise the Lord through music. (Psalm 150)

Elementary

Our elementary general music curriculum is based on Kodaly and Orff methods. Singing is an important part of every class, and students have the opportunity to play many different classroom instruments. Students in third and fourth grade play recorders, and fifth grade learns the basics of hand chimes. Students are also introduced to music history, with units such as Fifth Grade’s “American Composers” unit. All students participate in either the primary or intermediate choir, where proper singing technique is emphasized. There are many different performance outlets available; each year, the elementary students participate in two major concerts, as well as smaller events such as our Grandparents’ Day and Veterans’ Day programs.

Middle School and High School

Music Students in middle and high school are afforded many opportunities to continue to develop their musical talents and strive for excellence. Students participate in middle school choir, and can choose to participate in high school choir, ensemble, and band. Students may also choose to play in the pep band, participate in the Memorial Day Parade, or take private instrumental lessons. There are several concerts each year highlighting these different groups, and the high school ensemble travels to local churches to minister as well.

Visual Arts

The goal of the visual arts program at CCS is to cultivate our students’ artistic talent for the glory of God, teach new artistic skills, and encourage a positive attitude and appreciation of art. We believe that art is an integral part of a child’s education due to its emphasis on creativity, initiative, and responsibility.

Elementary

Our elementary general art curriculum is based on teaching basic techniques. As students learn these techniques, they are able to build and incorporate the skills into future projects. Many of these projects are submitted to the Fine Arts competition.

Middle School and High School

Art Students in middle and high school are afforded many opportunities to continue to develop their artistic talents and strive for excellence. Students participate in middle school art classes, and can choose to participate in high school art and advanced art classes. The art classes at the secondary level are taught on a four-year rotation. This includes a rotation of techniques and various aspects of art. This allows the students to work through a variety of skills and continue to strengthen their talents. Many secondary students submit projects in the Fine Arts competition.
